पञ्च-ब्रह्मासन-स्थिता STANDS as She who sits on a seat made of five brahma

Mantra Sadhana & Benefits

Mother Divine (Sri Mata) sits on a seat made of five brahma

Devi’s mansion is often depicted as being constructed from Chintamani gems. The bed she rests upon is represented by Shiva, with the great Isana serving as the pillow, and Sadasiva as the mat. According to Tantric texts, the four pillars that support this bed are Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, and Ishvara. This portrayal, where the Trinity and Isvara are envisioned as the bedposts, is particularly remarkable. The notion that an unstable object would be unsuitable as a bedpost is emphasized. In this magnificent imagery, the four deities stand as unmoving pillars, upholding Devi. It’s a representation that only those who achieve such a state of stillness can truly encapsulate her essence.

Furthermore, the concept of the five Brahmas can be understood as representing the five subtle elements involved in the manifestation process from the sakalabrahman, which is Brahman in a form.

Vedic Mantra Wisdom:

Devi is depicted as seated on a throne, which is constituted by five Brahmans: Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, Ishana, and Sadashiva, though some texts replace Mahadeva with Ishana. Each of these forms – Shiva, Mahadeva, Sadashiva, and Kameshvara – are different manifestations of Shiva, representing various actions. The profound statement “Tat Tvam Asi” encapsulates the essence that Devi resides within us, and we are part of Devi, symbolizing our inherent purity as Brahman.

In this depiction, the bed symbolizes Shiva – our physical body is Shiva, and the soul within us is Shakti. Just as a body is essential for the soul to realize itself, Shiva is often portrayed wearing animal skin, signifying that all entities – humans, animals, insects, trees – are enveloped in skin or bark, with the soul within them being Shakti. This concept is akin to an electrical cable, which has a copper wire beneath its covering and only functions when powered. Both the outer covering and the copper wire are crucial for its operation.

The four supports of the bed, Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, and Ishvara, symbolize different actions such as creation, sustenance, dissolution, and the act of concealment or Maya, which cycle until creation begins anew. This cycle is reflected in every living being.

Thus, the essence of “Tat Tvam Asi” is reiterated – Devi is in us; we are in Devi. We embody pure Brahman. Every creature is a manifestation of the Self-Existent.
