lalita sahasranama Siva

शिवा STANDS as who bestows all that is auspicious

Mantra Sadhana & Benefits

She is mother divine (Sri Mata), who bestows all that is auspicious

The word Siva, derived from the root ‘Vas’, meaning desire, is synonymous with the very essence of desire in Supreme Shiva. In essence, she embodies the desire of Supreme Shiva. The relationship between Siva and Devi is one of profound unity and equivalence; as Siva is, so is Devi, and vice versa. This equivalence in their essence and attributes is why Devi is referred to as Siva. According to the Saiva scriptures, Devi embodies the omnipotent power that is omnipresent, omniscient, and all-witnessing.

Siva, in her great goddess form, guides us towards Shiva, representing the feminine aspect. Devi and Shiva are inseparably linked, much like heat is to fire, radiance is to the sun, and moonlight is to the moon. Devi, in her divine role, imparts true knowledge to her devotees, enlightening and guiding them on their spiritual journey.

Vedic Mantra Wisdom:

As the consort of Śiva, she is known by the name Śivā, a designation of immense power within the Sahasranama, regarded as a Rahasya nama, or secret name. This name not only stands out but also illuminates all the names surrounding it, making it a jewel among the thousand names. In this Sahasranama, Śiva, Bhavani, and Uma are considered the three gems.

As indicated in the preceding name, there is no distinction between Śiva and Śakti, which is why she is also referred to as Śiva. The name Śiva additionally signifies auspiciousness, and she personifies this auspiciousness. She represents the Iccha, or desire, aspect of Śiva. There are three forms of Śakti: Iccha (desire), Jñāna (knowledge), and Kriya (action). Since Śiva embodies the Brahman and is thus devoid of desires, his Iccha aspect is manifested in the form of Devi. Here, the term ‘desire’ specifically pertains to the aspiration for self-realization
