lalita sahasranama Manda smita prabha pura majjat kamesa manasa
मन्दस्मित-प्रभापूर-मज्जत्कामेश-मानसा (Manda smita prabha pura majjat kamesa manasa) STANDS as the Manda – enticing/captivating. smita: smile, prabhāpūra – diffusing glow, majjatkāmeśa- mānasā Śiva’s mind. Mother divine submerges the mind of even Kamesh (Lord Shiva) in the radiance of her smile
Mantra Sadhana & Benefits
Śiva is captivated by that beautiful special smile of Lalitambika. When Śiva saw Mother Divine (Sri Mata smile, His mind melted and merged into Her. Kama deva shot his five arrows at Siva, to disturb His penance and failed and got burnt into ashes. But a tiny alluring smile from Parvathi/ Kameshwari and Śiva is totally smitten.
This nama highlights the practice of Śaṁayācāra worship, which centers on the unity (Samath) of Siva and Sakthi. In this tradition, Siva and Sakthi are always worshipped together, reflecting Shakthi’s unwavering devotion to Siva, akin to the Pativrata ideal. The presence of Siva invokes thoughts of Sakthi, and vice versa, emphasizing their inseparable nature. Shakthi is seen as the embodiment of energy, essential for activity, paralleling the state of Siva without her—listless and inert. In this analogy, the energy (Shakthi) is what gives the body (Siva) its life; without Shakthi, it would be like a dead corpse (Shava). Śaṁayācāra worship venerates the divine union of Siva and Shakthi.
Additionally, ‘Kāma’ is associated with ‘Bindu’, a dot, which is a part of the kāmakalā bija (īṁ ईं), comprising two bindus representing the sun and moon. Bindu symbolizes ego, and both ‘Kāma’ and ‘Kalā’ refer to desire. The origin of desire lies in the mind. The smile of Kmevar signifies her glory when it affects Iva’s mind. The mind’s intention or Sankalpa, requires action to manifest desire, a role embodied by Kāmeśvarī as kriya Shakthi (the power of action)
