lalita sahasranama Ashtami chandra vibhrajadalika sthala sobhita
अष्टमी चांद्र ववभ्राज दभलक स्थल शोभभता (Ashtami chandra vibhrajadalika sthala sobhita) STANDS as the mother divine forehead (alika) vibrates (vibrāja) like the Aṣṭamī (eighth) -Candra (moon); it glows like the crescent moon as it appears on the eighth day of the lunar fortnight.
Mantra Sadhana & Benefits
Mother Divine (Sri Mata) whose forehead radiantly arches like the crescent moon on the eighth lunar night (Ashtami). As the moon forms a half circle on this night, so does Devi’s forehead shine beneath her crown. The science of interpreting bodily marks and features, known as samudrikasatara, suggests that a half-moon shaped forehead signifies great intelligence.
Vedic Mantra Wisdom:
Ashtami, the eighth-day moon, is stunning. A unique beauty of Ashtami is that the moon remains crescent-shaped during both waxing and waning phases.
‘Ashtami’ is ‘Tvarita’. The 8th Devi among the 16 Tithi nityas is Tvarita. ‘Tvarita’ means ‘fast’. Thus, ‘Ashtami Chandra’ means she blesses quickly. Meditation on this nama brings a sadhaka closer to their spiritual goal, like the forehead to the Sahasrara. The Vedas call the forehead “Apyaya”—compassion. Thus, sadhakas can quickly receive her compassionate grace by focusing on this nama.
Her forehead is like the moon, symbolising Nirvikara (formlessness). Our emotions often show on our foreheads. Broad, clear foreheads indicate happiness, while furrowed ones indicate anger or distaste. The Vac Devis emphasise that the mother is eternally blissful – Aparinama – by drawing a parallel between her forehead and the moon on the eighth day of both the waxing (representing joy) and waning (representing sorrow) phases. The hair represents the Sahasrara chakra, while the forehead represents the Ajna chakra as a two-petalled lotus. This two-petalled lotus resembles Ashtami’s half-moon. Focusing on this Ajna Chakra point speeds up dhyana.”
